We are the communications & digital nerve center for the progressive movement. Our state hubs deliver electoral & policy victories. As core infrastructure, we move millions of voters across our state network through data-driven best practices, organic & paid digital content, and decades of expertise. Our 26 affiliates serve as a marketing shop for the progressive community. Behind the scenes, we facilitate communications and digital tables that align and coordinate the community behind a shared message and strategy. From staffing issue coalitions, developing message and communications calendars, and training and pitching spokespeople to developing digital content for partners and coordinating digital ad buys to maximize impact, we organize the progressive community’s communications for maximum impact.

What You’ll Do

As a Data Associate, you will assist in managing and analyzing data to support our state hubs and affiliates in their digital and electoral campaigns. This position requires a blend of technical skills and political acumen, making it ideal for someone passionate about using data to drive social change. Key responsibilities include:

Data collection and analytics (60%)

  • Support the use of a proprietary tool by state staff and allies, ensuring data is accurately collected and reported. This involves assisting in verifying data quality, facilitating the effective use of the tool for better decision-making regarding content dissemination and volunteer recruitment, and providing technical support where necessary.
  • Support identification of external data sources to augment the internal data, such as evaluating social media account scores.
  • Assist in fulfilling specific data requests from states regarding the effectiveness of social media content.
  • Contribute to the enhancement and upkeep of the proprietary tool, ensuring its scalability and adaptability alongside the project’s progression.
  • Collaborate with the team to review previous tests and aid in devising new experiments related to social media content, engagement strategies, and volunteer recruitment efforts.

Reporting and informing team members around metrics (40%)

  • Assist in establishing a quality control process for data accuracy and consistency.
  • Support in compiling reports for senior management and stakeholders on the program’s effectiveness at various levels and platforms.
  • Help produce detailed performance reports for state teams.
  • Contribute to content strategy meetings with insights from data analysis, testing, and metrics.
  • Aid in developing a rapid response mechanism for real-time analysis of social media impact, particularly in counteracting misinformation or disinformation.
  • Collaborate with in-state staff to align national data trends with state-specific strategies.
  • Assist in creating tools or methods for organizers to evaluate and prioritize communication efforts with volunteers.
  • Assist with providing tech support and support ticket monitoring and analysis as needed to improve tech support services to state affiliates.

Who You Are & Keys to Success (the must-haves)

To be successful in this job, you will excel in these areas:

  • 1-2 years of experience in analytics, ideally within political or advocacy settings.
  • Solid knowledge of various social media platforms and understanding of content adaptation for each.
  • Proven ability in supporting data-driven strategies, with experience in using tools like pgAdmin for data exports and queries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and management tools such as Periscope, Looker Studio Tableau, and PostgreSQL.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong attention to detail

This is a full-time, fully remote position funded for 12 months. The potential to renew funding and extend the position exists depending on strong program performance in the first year. The role requires 15% travel. Expected travel includes one annual staff retreat and two ProgressNow conferences.

Compensation

Because negotiating is inherently inequitable, we want to be transparent about what benefits we can offer up front and avoid negotiation. The starting salary for this position is $60,000.
