Who We Are

ProgressNow and ProgressNow Education, recognized as 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations respectively and collectively referred to as ‘ProgressNow’ in this announcement, serve as the central communication and digital nerve center for the progressive movement. Our state hubs deliver electoral and policy victories. As core infrastructure, we move millions of voters across our state network through data-driven best practices, organic & paid digital content, and decades of expertise.

Our 26 affiliates serve as a marketing shop for the progressive community. Behind the scenes, we facilitate communications and digital tables that align and coordinate the community behind a shared message and strategy. From staffing issue coalitions, developing message and communications calendars, and training and pitching spokespeople to developing digital content for partners and coordinating digital ad buys to maximize impact, we organize the progressive community’s communications for maximum impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Interface with advocacy and communications staff from 26 state affiliates to coordinate, support, and uplift their work.
  • Coordinate ProgressNow’s Reproductive Rights, Health, and Justice program by collaborating with national staff, state staff, and partner organizations.
  • Partner with Senior State Strategy Director in managing State Opportunity Fund, a regrant program that moves funding from PN to the states for abortion-out-loud work.
  • Conduct cross-state meetings, training, and webinars on the topics of abortion and reproductive rights and justice.
  • Serve as a conduit between Research and Message Director and state reproductive rights staff by collecting, editing, and disseminating talking points and communications materials among national partners, national staff, and state affiliates.
  • Manage ProgressNow’s reproductive rights e-mail list– send weekly and as-needed message guidance and news, manage membership, share affiliate resources to list.
  • Join and participate in national reproductive rights and justice coalitions, represent ProgressNow and its affiliates in these spaces, and disseminate coalition information to the network as appropriate.
  • Assist ProgressNow’s grants manager in writing and revising annual grant applications and reports for program funder.
  • Plan and manage annual reproductive rights and justice pre-conference retreat at the All-Staff conference.

  • A deep understanding of the reproductive rights, health, and justice fields, and an analysis of the intersectionality of abortion rights with other issues: You understand both the history and the current state of the abortion rights movement, and you show leadership in promoting these rights and values.
  • Excellent communication skills: You have a strong mastery and proven track record in communications strategy. You produce clear, compelling, and concise written communications and are able to do so quickly in rapid response situations. You have excellent verbal communication skills, present knowledge clearly and succinctly and provide context while asking questions to understand others’ perspectives.
  • Curiosity and independence: You are constantly reading the news and never stop analyzing opportunities for connection and promotion. You identify opportunities for engagement with your colleagues and state affiliates, and you proactively plan and execute strategies that connect and enhance their work.
  • Relationship builder: You bring enthusiasm for meeting and engaging with people, especially our national and affiliate staff. You empathize with the communities and partners we serve. You’re able to put people at ease, especially when there are lines of difference. You listen closely to understand needs or concerns and take steps based on that input. You get back to people in a timely manner. You take pride in providing clear, helpful information.
  • Commitment to racial equity and social justice: You recognize the role of race, income, age, immigration status, and other identities in shaping societal disparities, and you consistently amplify community voices to advocate for more equitable policy solutions. You recognize how your own identities show up in the work, and welcome, reflect on and act on feedback with an eye toward continuous learning about race, ability, and other lines of difference.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing outward-facing communications plans for non-profit organizations is preferred, but other candidates with other communications and reproductive rights strategy skills will be considered.

The position is full-time and fully remote. The role requires 15% travel. Expected travel includes one annual staff retreat and two ProgressNow conferences.

Compensation

Because negotiating is inherently inequitable, we want to be transparent about what benefits we can offer up front and avoid negotiation. The salary for this position is $55,000.

  • Eight paid holidays as well as an office closure annually between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
