Fuse is hiring a Deputy Director to help lead our organization’s staff and campaigns. The successful candidate will be able to manage senior staff, drive electoral and advocacy campaigns, lead organizational planning and development, support financial management and fundraising, and manage Board committees. We are seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced, campaign style environment.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our Deputy Director will help lead ambitious programs that win critical campaigns and build progressive power in Washington state. The Deputy Director will work in partnership with the Executive Director to manage and lead the organization and engage the Board of Directors.
The Deputy Director is responsible for helping manage strategy and day-to-day operations for Fuse. Our family of organizations includes a 501(c4), 501(c3), and several PACs. The Deputy Director works in collaboration with the Executive Director to ensure:
- We have a winning and focused strategy
- We have a strong board and staff team in which people understands their role and are set up to succeed
- Our resources are focused on our top priorities, and that we mobilize the resources necessary to achieve our goals.
- We demonstrate our commitment to equity internally and externally
This is a full-time, salaried position that is based on Seattle. The position works in the Seattle office on a hybrid basis and reports to the Executive Director.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Coordinate and lead work planning, strategic planning, and program reviews
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review work plans for departments, review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures
- Manage several positions, including Director-level staff
- Oversee large, cross-functional organization-wide projects or initiatives
- Manage critical special projects as needed
- Provide leadership and support to the Racial Equity Team. This includes supporting and helping develop sound policies that respect and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value and lead to a positive and productive work environment
- Partner regularly with the Executive Director to develop strategies, drive progress on organizational priorities, and to report to the Board of Directors and funders when necessary
- Represent the organization with partners, coalitions, donors, and others
- Fundraising with major donors and other funders
- Organize and support the Senior Staff team
- Provide management coaching support for directors and supervisors
- Oversee professional development and other budget categories
- Help develop and update internal policies and procedures.
- Promote organizational health; identify and resolve problems
Qualifications & Attributes
Work, volunteer, academic, and life experience are all acceptable
- At least seven years of experience working on and managing advocacy and electoral campaigns.
- At least seven years of experience in organizational leadership and managing other people
- Interest and experience in Washington state politics
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, campaign style work environment
- Innovative, creative, and data-driven
- Excels at working in teams and coalitions
- Flexibility to travel to different parts of the state
- Strong strategic planning and organizational skills
- Detail oriented and comfortable managing multiple projects at once
- Solution oriented with strong ability to problem solve and think critically
- Team oriented with a good sense of humor
- A commitment to and track record of supporting racial justice
- Comfortable and proficient with technology, including Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, and Slack.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Eight to ten years working on advocacy and electoral campaigns, including in leadership roles.
- Experience with communications, earned media, and new media
- Experience with fundraising from major donors, foundations, and other funders
- Experience with 501c3/501c4/PAC organization model
- Experience with federal, state, and local campaign finance reporting
Compensation
The salary range is $95,000-$115,000 per year, depending on experience. Fuse offers excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as a retirement package with a 3% employer match, 15 days per year of paid vacation for new employees, 10 paid holidays, 8 hours of sick leave per month, and a paid sabbatical after 5 years of employment.
