Presumptive Democratic Attorney General Nominee Dana Nessel
Endorses Acker for Regent
Southfield – Jordan Acker, a fourth generation Michigander, former Obama Administration official, and the first millennial to ever run for the U-M Board of Regents, was endorsed Wednesday, August 15th, by presumptive Democratic nominee for Attorney General Dana Nessel.
“I’m proud to endorse Jordan Acker for U-M Regent,” said Nessel. “Hard work matters. Like in my campaign, Jordan has traveled around the state, meeting with over 110 Democratic Club or County parties, making sure that Michiganders know the importance of the Board of Regents. As a fellow University of Michigan graduate, I know Jordan shares a passion for making our University accessible, transparent, and open to all. I look forward to continuing to travel around the state with Jordan, sharing our progressive vision and winning big in November."
Since launching his campaign in September 2017, Acker has received the support of a large group of grassroots, legislative, and labor leaders, including Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Rep. Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills), Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids), Rep. David LaGrand (D-Grand Rapids), Rep. Fred Durhal III (D-Detroit), Sen. Jim Ananich (D-Flint), Rep. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield), Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Twp.), Rep. Adam Zemke (D-Ann Arbor), Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Huntington Woods), Rep. Tim Greimel (D-Auburn Hills), Rep. Sheldon Neely (D-Flint), Sen. Steve Bieda (D-Warren), Sen. David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights), Rep. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores), Rep. Jewell Jones (D- Inkster), Virgie Rollins, chair of the DNC Black Caucus, among several others. He has also been endorsed by the Oakland County Democratic Black Caucus, Fems for Dems, the Waterford Democratic Club, the 4th Congressional District Democrats, the 7th Congressional District Democrats, and the Justice Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party. He has also earned the endorsement of the UAW, Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, IBEW State Conference, UFCW Local 951, and the Bricklayers Local 2, as well as the support of Regents Mark Bernstein and Michael Behm. Regents Emerti Phil Power and Laurence Deitch have also endorsed the campaign..
If nominated, Acker, 33, would be the first Democratic candidate for U-M Regent to have graduated or attended class this century. The Michigan Democratic Party will hold its convention August 25-26, 2018 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
