UAW CAP Endorses Acker For Regent
Ann Arbor— Jordan Acker, a fourth generation Michigander, former Obama Administration official, and the first millennial to ever run for the U-M Board of Regents, was endorsed Tuesday, August 14, by the UAW Community Action Program (CAP).
“I’m proud to accept the endorsement of the UAW,” said Acker. “The UAW helped build the middle class throughout Michigan. As a Regent, I’ll fight every day for working Michiganders, and make sure that the University becomes affordable and accessible to working people throughout our state.”
The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) represents over 430,000 members in Michigan.
Since launching his campaign in September 2017, Acker has received the support of a large group of grassroots, legislative, and labor leaders, including Mayor Mike Duggan, Rep. Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills), Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids), Rep. Fred Durhal III (D-Detroit), Sen. Jim Ananich (D-Flint), Rep. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield), Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Twp.), Rep. Adam Zemke (D-Ann Arbor), Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Huntington Woods), Rep. Tim Greimel (D-Auburn Hills), Sen. Steve Bieda (D-Warren), Sen. David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights), Rep. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores), Rep. Jewell Jones (D- Inkster) among several others. He has also been endorsed by the Oakland County Democratic Black Caucus, the Waterford Democratic Club, the 4th Congressional District Democrats, the 7th Congressional District Democrats, and the Justice Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party. He has also earned the endorsement of the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, IBEW State Conference, UFCW Local 951, and the Bricklayers Local 2, as well as the support of Regent Mark Bernstein. Regents Emerti Phil Power and Laurence Deitch have also endorsed the campaign in recent weeks.
If nominated, Acker, 33, would be the first Democratic candidate for U-M Regent to have graduated or attended class this century. The MDP will hold its convention August 25-26, 2018 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
